Filters are an extremely important part in a system. They reject unwanted harmonics below and above a desired fixed LO frequency. This will reduce spurious signals in a transmitter or receiver. A high-pass or low-pass filter can reject the unwanted sideband in up or down converter. They can also limit the bandwidth of an RF input or isolate channels in a transceiver.
